History of modular housing - Everything Old Is New Again

The early European settlers who arrived in Australia faced a daunting task when it came to building. The region surrounding Sydney was not abundant in viable building materials, and the tools required for construction were in short supply. Consequently, the settlers had to rely on a combination of traditional building techniques and pre-fabricated structures from various parts of the world to construct the new colony's towns and cities. The settlers imported wooden houses from Singapore, India, New Zealand, and Europe, and materials such as corrugated iron were also commonly used. To add to the diversity of architectural styles, catalogues were employed to order buildings such as houses, schools, theatres, and churches. The result was a fascinating mix of building styles that contributed to the rich tapestry of colonial housing.
